The following data formats are accepted for import into our Map tool:


What is KML/KMZ? top

KML is a file format used to display geographic data in an earth browser, such as Google Earth, Google Maps, and Google Maps for mobile. A KML file is processed in much the same way that HTML (and XML) files are processed by web browsers. Like HTML, KML has a tag-based structure with names and attributes used for specific display purposes. Thus, Google Earth and Maps act as browsers for KML files. Learn More

Many mapping tools allow you to save your map / route as a KML file. KMZ file is just the 'zipped', or compressed, version of the KML.


Steps to Import KML/KMZ File top

Follow these steps to download a KML/KMZ data file into MapMyRun.com:

  1. Navigate to the Create New Map page by clicking on the Map New run link in the top navigation bar.
  2. Click on the Import map menu item and select Import from File. (see below)

  3. Next select File from the Select Data Source drop down list in the Import Panel. (see below)
    The Import Panel will be located on the bottom-left of the Mapping Tool when you click Import from File.

  4. Select your KML/KMZ file and click the Upload button!

GPX (the GPS Exchange Format) is a light-weight XML data format for the interchange of GPS data (waypoints, routes, and tracks) between applications and Web services on the Internet. Learn More

Steps to Import GPX File top

Follow these steps to download a GPX data file into MapMyRun.com:

  1. Navigate to the Create New Map page by clicking on the Map New run link in the top navigation bar.
  2. Click on the Import map menu item and select Import from File. (see below)

  3. Next select File from the Select Data Source drop down list in the Import Panel. (see below)
    The Import Panel will be located on the bottom-left of the Mapping Tool when you click Import from File.

  4. Select your GPX file and click the Upload button!


Steps to Import a Gmap-Pedometer.com Route top

Follow the same steps as above but select Gmap-Pedometer.com as the Data Source. The Route number can be found by looking at your link

For example, if your link to your Gmap-Pedometer.com Route is: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=475949 then your Route Number is 475949.
